to capture a wave in motion

by Maria Diaz

water, brackish

with the ejected sediment

of your cold and stagnant gut

bound by your steely limits
an aquatic menagerie
held in place by thousands of strings
colorful, demure, outrageous, still
inhabitants immobilized by pause for
ever, I could sit with you

the wind chills and I clothe
and sit and wait
for the ready I’ll never be
to take shape,
the mold of a moment I aspire to hold
