We laid atop the oaken king sized bed
Enough space to rest in our own little worlds
Enough space to wrap a foot around a heel
As I turned my back to you, you softly said,
“Goodnight, sweetheart.”

We sat on my bed
Our bodies hunched towards one another
Legs crossed, knees towards chest
My face an amphitheater of pain
You quietly said,
“I love you but I don’t know if I could love you forever.”
